440SSg Notes
Penn used the same mold (stamped 27-4400-1) for the 440SSg that they used for the last runs of the 4400SS rather than go to the expense of making an entirely new mold for the 440SSg rotor.
The current version of the 27-440g includes a brass balance weight. Our unconfirmed assumption is the grinding down on the underside is because they changed OTHER parts in the 440SSg housing/internals underneath the rotor compared to the older 4400SS and therefore needed a little more room for those changes. If you are installing it on the 440SSg there is zero issues with the rotor because it was literally redesigned for the 440SSg.4400SS backward compatibility notes
NOTE: Penn made a conversion kit with some extra parts this rotor is in a kit 27-440GSP without the brass weight, that can be used on the older 4400ss reels, but only those that have the newer ratchet / dog with the wraparound spring. See the kit for more info for the 4400SS
